Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin

Computer Training for Absolute Beginners. Courses held in Telford (Ketley and Hadley), Shrewsbury (town centre, Castlefields and Meole Brace) and Ludlow. Small daytime classes of four students. Whitchurch –  Beechtree Centre

Beginners IT courses, Next course starts 10th April 2013 and costs £36 for six sessions held on Wednesday afternoons which includes tea or coffee. To book a place call 01948 666612.

Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology

Introduction to Computing. Ten week course, various locations, approx £85, for anyone with little or no experience with computers wishing to gain an introduction of how to use a computer to a level where you are confident to do things yourself and even want to go on to a further computing course. You will cover: Windows Explorer,  Microsoft Word, internet and email.

Also via distance learning they offer ECDL/ITQ (European Computer Driving Licence). ECDL is an internationally-recognised series of qualifications for people who need to demonstrate to potential employers their competence in the key concepts of computing, or who simply require a solid foundation of computing skills upon which to build their future IT experience. ECDL is available at three levels: ECDL Essentials (Level 1), ECDL Extra (Level 2 – equivalent a GCSE at grade A* – C) and ECDL Advanced (Level 3 – equivalent to an A-Level); each of these is offered as a separate course and qualification.

Shropshire Council Adult and Community Education

Venues, Bridgnorth Library, Brosely Library, Gateway Education & Arts Centre, The Lantern – Sundorne

First Steps with a Computer, a 1 day course costing £27. This course is aimed at those ’terrified’ at the thought of using a computer? Or perhaps those who had a go but got nowhere. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere you can learn the basics at your own pace. Suitable for those with very little or no knowledge of computers. The course covers switching on/off, mouse and keyboard skills and simple document management and wordpad skills.  For information call 01743 355159/361120.

Internet and email (Includes accredited qualification), a 2 day course, cost £54. This course aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to make the most of the possibilities offered by Internet and email; the course will also introduce you to the subject of esafety and offer some practical and useful tips for to use online services safely and securely. There will be lots of “hands on” activities using Internet Explorer and a web based email account of your choice. This is for new or nearly new internet and email users. Walford and North Shropshire College

Enterprise House has been operating a drop – in IT Centre since 1996. In the last 10 years, they have trained and supported over 2,000 new computer users.

Throughout the year they offer an 8 session course for those keen to learn the basics on how to use a computer, which costs £40.

Ludlow- Ludlow College

Ludlow College has recently invested more than £500,000 in improving and developing new and existing facilities.

They offer a wide range of computer courses. The next courses relevant for begininers are:

  • Introduction to Computing (£100) – This is a ten week course for 1st time computer users.
  • Internet and Email (£30) – This is a one day course and some experience with the Internet is necessary, you will need to have your own email account.
